Ash, Misty, and Brock are touring the Safari Zone. The Safari Zone is an area teaming with wild pokémon just waiting to be captured. Though they haven’t caught any pokémon yet, it’s enough to make our friends sing for joy! Unfortunately, their singing brings them to the attention of Kaiser – the game warden of the Safari Zone. Kaiser does not appreciate their singing and pulls a gun (which he calls Thunderbolt) on our friends in response to Ash’s asking what his problem is. The rules of the Safari Zone state that the person capturing pokémon can only use special Safari balls – otherwise, you learn firsthand the feeling of Kaiser’s thunderbolt. While in the game warden’s station, Misty sees an old picture of a young man with a Dratini. The trigger-happy Kaiser adamantly states that there are no Dratini in the Safari Zone. They decide to call Professor Oak for more information. Professor Oak states that Kaiser himself found Dratini 30 years ago and that people from all over came to capture the legendary Dratini. In the process, they captured many other pokémon – leaving the Safari Zone barren and causing the law to change so that only Safari balls may be used inside the zone to protect the pokémon from over-capture. While our friends are traveling around the Safari Zone capturing Tauros, Team Rocket holds the game warden hostage at gun point looking for information on the legendary Dratini. The friends discover Kaiser being tickle-tortured by a one of Team Rocket’s creations. Kaiser informs them that Team Rocket is going after Dratini. Can Kaiser and the friends get to and protect the legendary pokémon in time?
