Ash, Misty, and Brock arrive in the beautiful beach tourist town of Porta Vista. Enjoying the sunny weather, our friends through a little miscommunication end up stealing a beautiful luxury boat. They accidently crash the “borrowed” boat into a dock – damaging both the boat and the dock. As it turns out, both the boat and the dock belong to an older gentleman, Moe. Moe demands that he be reimbursed for the damages. Not having any money, our friends volunteer to work off the debt. This works out perfectly for Moe as he owns a small beach-side restaurant business and could use the help. His business has been suffering as his business rival next door, Brutella, is a ruthless businesswoman who attracts the majority of customers. Our friends attract customers with the assistance of their pokémon, but Team Rocket (working with Brutella to earn some money themselves) sabotages all their efforts. Brutella takes advantage of Moe’s bad situation to call in a debt that Moe owes her. He now has to pay her everything he owes her by tomorrow or lose his beloved boat. Professor Oak and Mrs. Delia Ketchum, Ash’s mom, come to the rescue with the idea of appealing to the large tourist population in town for the Annual Porta Vista Beach Beauty and Pokémon Contest. Our friends are very enthusiastic about helping Moe raise the money to keep his boat any way possible. Can they win out against the dirty sabotaging of Brutella, Team Rocket, and their Gyarados submarine?
Reason Episode 18 – Beauty and the Beach is a banned Pokémon episode:
In this episode, James enters a beauty contest and is shown with breasts. With transgender issues being a sensitive and controversial subject in a majority of English speaking countries, the decision was made to drastically cut major parts from the episode. The episode was actually aired in English, but was not aired as it originally was created in Japan. This severe editing from the original has led to this episode being classified as the first “banned” episode by fans.
